Boys Varsity Track, Girls Varsity Track · Harkelroad Double Dips, Captures Podium Twice At State Finals

On a beautiful day for a track meet, the Tigers took to the oval one last time at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium for the State Track and Field Championships. Along with Kylie Obergefell in the pole vault, Jimmy Harkelroad competed in the 110H, 300H, and also anchored the 4×400 relay squad of Delaney, Wood, and Monak in the State finals.

Kylie Obergefell had a fantastic high school career come to an end, as she finished 11th in the State with a jump of 10′. Kylie finishes her career as a 2-time State qualifier, and has solidified her legacy for an incredible work ethic and willingness to do anything for the team.

For the boys, it was a historic day for Jimmy Harkelroad starting with the 110H. Harkelroad finished 7th place with a time of 15.05, improving on last season’s 15th place performance. He then followed that up by destroying the school record in the 300H with a time of 37.61 and was just edged out by Meadowdale’s Javon Poole by 2 tenths of a second to finish as the State runner-up! He not only broke the school record outright after tying Lucas Bauer’s mark of 38.04, but he also dramatically improved from his 8th place finish in the same event just a year ago at the State track meet.

In the final event of the season for Division 2, the 4x400m relay squad of Richie Delaney, Luke Wood, Caden Monak, and Jimmy Harkelroad (there’s that name again) ended the season as the 9th best team in the state, just one spot shy of making the podium. The silver lining for these boys is that they are all coming back next year for a revenge tour, and will look to use their experience from this year to get back down to State for another chance at the podium.

We want to thank all those who have supported us throughout this season, and we look forward to next season being even more successful than this year! #gocats
